Tampereen Voimia’s Environmental Policy

1 June 2018 – 12 December 2019

Tampereen Voimia’s environmental policy, ‘Responsible Voimia’, has been published as part of the implementation of the Ekokompassi environmental management system. The environmental policy summarises Voimia’s principles of sustainable development.

Ekokompassi is a system designed to facilitate the management and leadership of environmental matters. It is based on international environmental management standards and corresponding simplified Nordic systems.

Tampereen Voimian’s Ekokompassi environmental management system was introduced in April. Voimian’s concrete environmental objectives, measures and their monitoring have been incorporated into the new system. Next autumn, Tampereen Voimian’s Ekokompassi will be audited, meaning that external auditors will assess how work to achieve the objectives has got under way and whether we are on schedule.

The Eco-Compass includes Tampereen Voimian’s new ‘Responsible Voimia’
environmental policy, which summarises the public utility’s principles of sustainable development. The environmental policy outlines the priorities and key actions regarding ecological, economic and social responsibility, and explains them in detail. Many of these priorities affect residents’ lives in surprisingly many ways. Social responsibility encompasses employment and jobs, but also responsibility for residents’ nutrition and the donation of surplus food to food banks. In practical terms, responsible procurement means, for example, taking animal welfare into account in purchasing decisions and ensuring that the porridge served in nurseries is organic.

The management of Tampereen Voimian is committed to acting in accordance with the objectives of the environmental policy and takes responsibility for ensuring that sustainable development is taken into account in all operations.
