An evolving cleaning service

A robot as a workmate

The cleaning services sector is undergoing a significant transformation, with technology, sustainability and customer focus shaping the industry’s future. Robotics, artificial intelligence and data analytics are already part of cleaning work, and their role is set to grow even further.

Voimat looks to the future with curiosity and a positive attitude towards development. The company is committed to utilising technology, such as robotics and digital solutions, which support employee wellbeing and improve service quality. We monitor developments in the sector and are actively involved in developing new solutions. We select the approaches that most effectively meet our customers’ needs.

Various combination robots, robotic vacuum cleaners and hybrids of these have been acquired to support and integrate with cleaning operations. The robots’ main task is to reduce the physical and repetitive strain of cleaning on staff and to improve cleaning efficiency. Our first robot, Puhti, began work in 2023 at Vuores School. Puhti is at its best when cleaning large, empty spaces such as sports halls and lobbies. In schools and nurseries in particular, the robots have been enthusiastically welcomed; naming ceremonies have been held for them, they have been assigned ‘sponsor classes’, and children have had the chance to get to know them alongside a cleaning service worker.

At Etelä-Hervanta School, the robot named Paavo, chosen by the pupils, is on duty.

In the future, cleaning services may also be supported by various data analytics-based systems that can be used to monitor or optimise cleaning operations. Skills development for cleaning service staff also plays a major role in this change.

Although robots are an integral part of cleaning service provision, the vast majority of the work is still done by humans. Employees programme, monitor and inspect the robot’s work. Robots will never replace humans but will act as work partners in routine tasks.

To keep pace with developments in cleaning services, it is important to familiarise oneself with new innovative solutions in the sector. Voimian’s partners and diverse collaboration networks play a significant role in this.

Service design and customer-centricity are also key aspects of the sector’s development. Cleaning is no longer merely about maintenance, but part of a holistic approach to well-being and the experience of the space. In the future, too, the customer will always come first: we solve and anticipate our customers’ problems and future needs.

Rumpu – Developed by Voimia for the benefit of our customers

Rumpu, an ERP system for cleaning services, is an example of Voimia’s in-house development work. Rumpu brings transparency and efficiency to cleaning services. Through the customer portal, end-users can track the progress of their orders, from booking to invoicing. Contractors can also manage their information on the portal, which improves collaboration, communication, speed and the efficiency of invoicing.

Environmentally friendly cleanliness

The environmental friendliness of our cleaning services is an integral part of our operations. Proof of this is the fact that we have once again been awarded the EcoCompass certificate. At the end of 2025, we were once again granted the right to use the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, which has been awarded to our cleaning services.
