Towards our goals, one step at a time
Pirkanmaan Voimia supports the City of Tampere’s goal of carbon neutrality. Reducing negative climate impacts is enshrined in the company’s environmental programme and also in its ownership objectives. Our work is guided more clearly than ever by a new climate and nature roadmap, which brings together our objectives and, above all, the actions through which we systematically and measurably reduce the climate emissions of our operations each year.
The roadmap is structured around three main strands. Each has its own role, but together they form a cohesive whole that is evident in the customer’s day-to-day life.
Together, we are making a difference
The first, top line serves as a reminder that impact is created through collaboration.
We work together with our customers, partners and one another, whilst deepening our understanding of why our work matters. This is reflected, for example, in the fact that:
- We develop our operations in collaboration with our customers, for example using foresight methods
- We help customers make sustainable choices in their daily lives through menu planning
- we communicate our commitment to sustainability in a clear and practical way
When we succeed together, the impact is greater than the sum of our individual actions.
We’re changing the world, one plate at a time
The second approach takes us straight to where the impact is greatest: food.
We prepare millions of meals every year, and each one presents an opportunity to make sustainable choices easy and appealing. In our roadmap, this means, for example:
- the development of tasty and more climate-friendly foods
- promoting local production and the use of responsibly sourced raw materials
- reducing food waste – our goal is 0 kg of food in the bin
- encouraging customers to eat and enjoy their food every day
“More flavour, better for the planet” isn’t just a slogan; we’re committed to making it a tangible reality that shows up on your plate.
We are reducing our environmental impact
The third strand brings together the actions we take to reduce our environmental impact more broadly.
This is evident in the kitchens, in cleaning and in transport:
- we are reducing energy consumption and improving energy efficiency
- We are making transport more environmentally friendly and routes more efficient
- We provide cleaning services using methods that have a lower environmental impact. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is a prime example of this!
- We are systematically and measurably reducing our carbon and ecological footprints
Our goals are clear: we will gradually reduce our carbon footprint in the run-up to 2035, whilst at the same time easing the overall burden on the environment. We can make a difference when each of us does our bit: in the kitchen, with cleaning, in transport and in the office. At the same time, we work closely with our customers and partners.
