Animal welfare
In its food procurement, Voimian takes into account not only sustainability and environmental impact but also animal welfare. All the animal-derived products we use are traceable and produced under systems that monitor animal welfare. Most of the animal feed comes from Finnish fields, which also supports security of supply.
Healthy animals grow better, fall ill less often and require less medication, which also improves food safety and reduces the risk of antibiotic resistance.
We do not use eggs produced in battery cages. Our free-range eggs come from farms where the hens are allowed to move around indoors.
The pork and beef come from farms where animal health and medication are regularly monitored.
The fish meets WWF’s recommendations, and we also require our fish suppliers to have a social responsibility plan.
Chicken and turkey
The egg products we use are produced in a salmonella-free area and can be traced back to the producer. All the fresh eggs and egg products we use come from free-range hens.
The poultry comes from a salmonella-free area and the origin of the broilers can be traced back to the farm. One of the most important indicators of welfare is the so-called footpad index. Good footpad health indicates good rearing conditions for the broilers, such as the condition of the litter and the birds’ gut health.
Pig
The pork we use comes from farms that use the Sikava health monitoring system. Farms participating in Sikava monitor tail-biting, which is one indicator of pig welfare. Sikava also monitors the use of antimicrobials, such as antibiotics.
Cattle
Skimmed milk is our main beverage for all customer groups. In lunch restaurants, larger daycare centers, schools and educational institutions, milk vending machines stock milk from free-range cows. Cows on farms producing free-range milk live in open-plan barns, where they are free to move about, eat at their own pace and spend time in the herd. In 2025, 539,090 litres of free-range milk were consumed at our premises.
The beef we use is sourced from farms that use the Naseva health monitoring system. Naseva monitors the medication, health and welfare of the cattle.
Fish
The fish we use is listed on the WWF’s yellow or green list. Wild fish must be caught in a manner that takes into account at least the following points: fishing complies with local and international laws, fishing effort is at a sustainable level for the fish stock, and fishing helps to maintain environmental diversity.
In addition, the fish supplier must have a social responsibility plan. The plan must set out how the business respects human rights and fundamental labour rights, and how it utilises social responsibility certifications and audit systems.
